June 2026 reference month, released 14 July 2026 — the publication lag is roughly ONE MONTH (Jan 2026 CPI released 17 Feb, Feb released 16 Mar, Mar released 14 Apr, Apr released 14 May, May released 16 Jun, Jun released 14 Jul), so expect the July 2026 bulletin in mid-August 2026. Index 143.3 (base Sept 2021 = 100), up from 140.7 in May 2026, i.e. month-on-month +1.9%. Inflation has re-accelerated sharply through 2026: from 2.0% in January to a peak of 7.9% in May before easing to 7.1% in June. Drivers in June: Transport +29.6% YoY (international airfares, inter-island ferry fares, diesel, petrol), Housing/water/electricity/gas +31.1%, Restaurants and hotels +9.6%, Alcoholic beverages/tobacco/kava +8.6%, Food and non-alcoholic beverages only +2.7%. Imported goods prices rose 13.1% YoY versus 2.0% for local goods. Context and cross-check: the NRBT's February 2026 Monetary Policy Statement independently reports headline inflation of 3.1 percent in December 2025 'below the 5 percent reference rate', which matches the TSD series exactly; the NRBT also warns that core inflation has run above 10 percent (12.2% in Nov 2025) and that the Middle East conflict poses an import-price shock — the 2026 acceleration to 7-8% is that shock arriving. NO IMF OR WORLD BANK ESTIMATE IS SUBSTITUTED here; every figure in this series is from a TSD bulletin. Series break to be aware of: TSD REBASED the CPI in 2025 using HIES 2021 expenditure weights (basket expanded from 137 items on the CPI 2018 basket to 161 items on the CPI 2021 basket, adding e.g. green coconuts, cheese, cell phones and cars, dropping turkey tails and domestic call bundles), and TSD has published a formal notice that the September 2025 CPI was REVISED following an October 2025 SPC technical assistance mission — the November 2025 report on the TSD site is also marked '_Revised'. ACCESS PROBLEMS (important for the source-watcher): (a) the TSD CPI bulletins are SCANNED, IMAGE-ONLY PDFs with no extractable text layer — the figures above were read from the page images, and any automated scraper will get an empty string; (b) the bulletins are not linked by static URL on the CPI page — they are served through a WP File Download plugin, enumerable only via https://tongastats.gov.to/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?juwpfisadmin=false&action=wpfd&task=files.display (paginated, ~16 pages) and downloadable via task=file.download&wpfd_category_id=498&wpfd_file_id=<id>, with the 2026 bulletins in category 498 and 2025 in category 450; (c) the sibling endpoint task=categories.getFiles returns an empty file list and must not be relied on.
