Vanuatu inflation rate (CPI)

Headline consumer price inflation, percent change over the same quarter of the previous year, from the Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics (VBOS). Vanuatu's CPI is QUARTERLY, not monthly. The national index combines separate indices for the three commercial centres — Port Vila, Luganville and Lenakel. Base: 1st Quarter 2000 = 100, reweighted from Q1 2023.

What this value means

PUBLICATION LAG — STATED HONESTLY: as at 23 July 2026 the most recent CPI VBOS has published is the DECEMBER QUARTER 2025, released 17 February 2026. That release names its own next update: 'March [quarter] — 15th of May, 2026.' That date has passed and the March 2026 quarter has NOT been published: no 2026 directory exists under the VBOS CPI document tree (probe returns 404) and the CPI landing page's Table 1, which VBOS renders inline and keeps current, still ends at 2025 4th quarter. So the newest official Vanuatu inflation reading is roughly seven months old and roughly two quarters behind. NO SUBSTITUTE HAS BEEN USED: the IMF's 2025 Article IV projections and the RBV's model-based inflation forecasts are not observations and are not served here. The RBV corroborates the gap — its March 2026 Monetary Policy Statement records that 'official data for the March quarter 2026 are not yet available.' DETAIL FOR Q4 2025: quarter-on-quarter the national index FELL 1.9% (Port Vila -2.2%, Lenakel -2.1%), driven down by Food -4.2%, Household Supplies -1.8%, Drinks and Tobacco -0.4%, Recreation -0.3%, Transportation -0.2%, Communication -0.1%, partly offset by Health +8.5%, Clothing & Footwear +5.7% and Miscellaneous +2.5%; Education was unchanged. Year-on-year the national +0.8% breaks down as Port Vila +0.4%, Luganville +2.6%, Lenakel +2.3% — the capital is the disinflationary component and a national figure read off Port Vila alone would understate. Underlying (volatility-excluding) inflation rose +0.4% on the quarter and +2.7% on the year, i.e. MORE than double the headline: headline is being flattered by food. Annual averages: 2023 +11.2%, 2024 +1.1%, 2025 +0.7%. All of this sits inside the RBV's 0–4% target band, which is why the RBV Rate has not moved since September 2024. TRAP — WRONG DOMAIN: the statistics office is the Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics at vbos.gov.vu. The older name and domain, Vanuatu National Statistics Office at vnso.gov.vu, is still what most search results and citations point to, and it NO LONGER RESOLVES (NXDOMAIN) — any watcher configured against vnso.gov.vu is silently dead. vbos.gov.vu also serves an incomplete TLS chain. The canonical page, which carries the full Table 1 history inline as well as the quarterly PDFs, is https://vbos.gov.vu/index.php/en/statistics/economic-statistics/consumer-price-index. NEXT RELEASE: March quarter 2026, overdue since 15 May 2026.
