What this value means

ELEVEN public holidays in 2026. Fiji's list is short by regional standards: there is no Labour Day, no Constitution Day and no Queen's/King's Birthday, and Fiji Day (10 October, independence) is the only national day. Three of the eleven are movable and are re-fixed each year — Good Friday / Easter Saturday / Easter Monday (Easter Sunday is 5 April 2026), the Prophet Mohammed's Birthday (Monday 24 August 2026) and Diwali (Monday 9 November 2026) — so a cached prior-year list will be wrong on five of the eleven dates. Weekend fall in 2026: Easter Saturday (4 Apr) and Fiji Day (Sat 10 Oct) fall on Saturdays and are NOT transferred; Boxing Day (26 Dec, a Saturday) IS transferred and is observed on Monday 28 December 2026. Under s.4 of the Public Holidays Act 1971 the Minister may, with the Prime Minister's approval, amend the declared list by further Gazette notice mid-year (and one-off special holidays are occasionally declared), so this list is not immutable — re-check the Gazette. ACCESS HAZARD: employment.gov.fj, which hosts the gazette notice PDF (GN 70), refused all connections from this location (ECONNREFUSED on 124.108.30.77), and fiji.gov.fj/About-Fiji/Public-Holidays was likewise unreachable (DNS/connection failure). The eleven dates above were taken from reporting of the Cabinet decision that the Gazette notice gives effect to and are internally consistent (Easter and Boxing Day observance check out); re-verify against the GN 70 PDF text when the Ministry site is reachable from the serving host.
