NINE national public holidays in 2026, read verbatim off the gazetted notice. TRAP 1 — the NATIONAL DAY OF THANKSGIVING is Monday 28 DECEMBER 2026, not 26 December. It is commonly listed by holiday aggregators as a fixed 26 December (Boxing-Day-equivalent); the 2026 notice moves it because 26 December falls on a Saturday. Serving 26 December for 2026 would be wrong. TRAP 2 — the Solomon Islands statute is the Public Holidays Act [Cap. 151]; several secondary sources miscite it as 'Cap. 42'. TRAP 3 — HOLY SATURDAY (Saturday 4 April) is a gazetted national holiday in Solomon Islands, which is unusual; the Easter block is therefore Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Monday but NOT Easter Sunday (5 April) as a separate declared day. King's Birthday is the second Friday in June (12 June 2026). Independence Day is fixed at 7 July (Tuesday in 2026). Whit Monday is Pentecost Monday, 25 May 2026. PROVINCIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2026, appointed under s.6 of the Act and NOT included in the national list above because they bind only within the named province: Choiseul Province — Wednesday 25 February; Isabel Province — Tuesday 2 June; Temotu Province — Monday 8 June; Central Province — Monday 29 June; Renbel (Rennell and Bellona) Province — Monday 20 July; Guadalcanal Province — Saturday 1 August (Friday 31 July to be observed as the public holiday); Makira/Ulawa Province — Monday 3 August; Malaita Province — Saturday 15 August (Friday 14 August to be observed as the public holiday); Western Province — Monday 7 December. Note that only the two Saturday provincial holidays carry an express weekday substitution; no substitution is declared for the national holidays that fall on a Saturday (Holy Saturday, 4 April). ACCESS NOTES: the official notice is a SCANNED, IMAGE-ONLY, SIDEWAYS-ROTATED two-page PDF on solomons.gov.sb — it contains no extractable text and must be OCR'd; text scraping returns an empty string. The Ministry of Home Affairs does not appear to publish an HTML version. theislandsun.com.sb, which reported the notice, returns HTTP 403 to automated fetches. The notice is dated 3 November 2025 but was only posted to solomons.gov.sb in April 2026 (/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/), so expect the 2027 notice to appear late. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30) - PROVISIONAL. Solomon Islands national holidays come from the Public Holidays Act [Cap. 151] Schedule, but the observed dates are published each year in a Ministry of Home Affairs Public Notice (the 2026 instrument was Public Notice No. 2/2026, gazetted 5 November 2025) and THE 2027 NOTICE DOES NOT YET EXIST; expect it around November 2026. The dates here are derived from the statutory list plus two rules that two consecutive official notices establish: the King's Birthday is the SECOND FRIDAY in June (13 June 2025 and 12 June 2026 were both second Fridays), and the National Day of Thanksgiving is 26 December moved to the following Monday when it falls on a weekend. NOT RESOLVED: Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December 2027 and no statutory substitution rule is visible - the notices handle weekend occurrences by individual ministerial decision - so no lieu day is served for it. Also NOT INCLUDED: the ten provincial days, which are appointed annually by the Minister under s.6, are provincial rather than national, and move from year to year.
