Solomon Islands inflation rate (CPI)

Solomon Islands headline consumer price inflation as officially headlined — the annual rate calculated on a 3-MONTHS MOVING AVERAGE basis, National CPI (2017=100), weighted average of the four CPI towns (Honiara, Auki, Gizo, Noro), compiled by the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office (SINSO), Ministry of Finance and Treasury.

What this value means

PUBLICATION LAG IS REAL AND MUST NOT BE HIDDEN. As of 23 July 2026 the newest month for which a headline inflation rate exists anywhere official is MAY 2026 — a lag of roughly two and a half months. The two official publishers are out of step with each other: (a) SINSO (statistics.gov.sb), the compiler, has published only up to MARCH 2026 — Statistical Bulletin 06/2026, 'National Consumer Price Index (March 2026)', released 06/05/2026 and posted to the site 14 May 2026; SINSO's last narrative news release was for December 2025, posted 4 February 2026, so its own 'All releases' feed looks four months stale even though a March data file exists behind the Consumer Price Index category page. (b) CBSI republishes the SINSO series monthly in its Monthly Economic Bulletin, which is more current — the June 2026 MEB (published July 2026) carries CPI through May 2026, and CBSI's homepage indicator tile showed 4.2% for April 2026 as at 23 July 2026, i.e. the CBSI DASHBOARD ITSELF LAGS ITS OWN BULLETIN BY A MONTH. The value served here (3.9%, May 2026) is the most recent official figure, taken from CBSI's bulletin, which is an official primary publisher republishing the official compiler. WHICH MEASURE: Solomon Islands headlines a 3-MONTH MOVING AVERAGE annual rate, not a simple through-the-year rate, and the two differ materially — for March 2026 the 3mma annual rate was +4.2% while the plain through-the-year change was +3.1%. Anyone comparing Solomon Islands to a country that headlines simple YoY must know this. Also published: monthly (MoM) change and underlying/core measures. Composition for May 2026: domestic ('other items') inflation 4.7% (down from 5.9%), imported inflation 1.9% (up from 0.2%), core inflation 0.9% (down from 1.4%) — i.e. the 2026 inflation episode is domestically and supply driven, with core well contained; CBSI's Governor described recent inflation as 'more supply driven than demand driven'. Index base is 2017=100; NCPI level 134.2 in May 2026. CBSI's target ceiling is inflation below 5%; its March 2026 MPS projected headline easing to ~3.5% by June 2026 and ~3.4% at end-2026, which the May outturn is tracking. ACCESS NOTES: SINSO CPI bulletins are text-extractable PDFs behind opaque download URLs of the form statistics.gov.sb/download/13/consumer-price-index/<id>/<slug> — the ids change every release, so a watcher must scrape the Consumer Price Index category listing rather than guess a URL. The CBSI MEB filename pattern is unstable (older issues at /sites/default/files/reports/MEB-<Month>-<Year>.pdf, newer at /sites/default/files/<yyyy-mm>/MEB-<Month>%20<Year>_N.pdf with an arbitrary trailing index), and note the February 2026 issue is misspelt 'MEB-Feburary-2026.pdf'. Next expected: June 2026 CPI, via the July 2026 MEB (early-to-mid August 2026) and a SINSO bulletin at an unpredictable later date.
