What this value means

Gazette text read verbatim from the scanned notice: 'That with effect from the 1st of August 2019 the following minimum rate of wages shall apply: (a) In all other sectors by eight dollars ($8.00) per hour. (b) In the Agriculture plantations and the fishing sectors shall be seven dollars and twenty cents ($7.20) per hour. (c) This order shall apply throughout Solomon Islands. This notice supersedes Legal Notice (LN 31/2008) issued 23rd April 2008 and is hereby deemed to be cancelled.' STRUCTURE: two rates only, split by SECTOR (not by geography, age, or occupation), both hourly, both national. The 2019 Order roughly DOUBLED the previous LN 31/2008 general rate of $4.00/hour. STILL IN FORCE AND UNCHANGED as of 23 July 2026 — no superseding Order appears in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration's Labour Laws register, whose only minimum-wage instrument is this one ('Minimum Wages Rate Order', labour.gov.sb/download/4584). At 45 hours/week (the Labour Act standard working week) the general rate is about $360/week, ~$1,560/month. The rate has now stood nominally unchanged for nearly seven years against cumulative CPI inflation (national CPI 2017=100 stood at 134.2 in May 2026), so the real floor has fallen materially; the ~400-day update_cycle_days is aspirational rather than observed. ACCESS NOTES — BOTH OFFICIAL COPIES ARE IMAGE-ONLY. The Ministry's minimum-wage page (labour.gov.sb/employment-in-solomon-islands/minimum-wage/) contains NO machine-readable figures at all: the rates exist solely inside the scanned PNG cited above. The downloadable 'Minimum Wages Rate Order' PDF (labour.gov.sb/download/4584) is likewise a single-page scan with zero extractable text. A source-watcher must OCR or diff these images; text scraping of labour.gov.sb will silently return nothing. PacLII's Solomon Islands subsidiary-legislation index carries only the older 1999 Labour Act notice (paclii.org/sb/legis/sub_leg/laaotfotcol41999651.pdf) and paclii.org returned HTTP 403 to direct fetches during confirmation.
